INSTRUCTION FROM HIGHLY QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS

Physiotherapists undertake a 4 year university course. We have extensive knowledge of all body systems - not just the bones, joints and muscles.

Exercise is our speciality. Our skill is in choosing the right things for you to be doing based on your fitness level, history of injury or illness, goals, and any other limitations you may have.

Despite what you may believe about a specific condition - there is always some sort of exercise you can do. We help you to start at the right level and then progress you to achieving your overall goals.

BACKED BY SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

Supervised exercise has been shown to be an effective long-term treatment for a number of conditions.

These include:

  • Back and neck pain

  • Knee and hip pain

  • Arthritis

  • Tendon problems

  • Shoulder pain

  • Mental health conditions eg depression and anxiety

VARIETY OF EXERCISE

One of the reasons people stop exercise is because they find it a bit repetitive. While it is important to persist with certain exercises and follow a plan, our programs involve a great deal variety.

We use the following equipment:

  • mat work

  • Pilates reformer

  • free weights

  • resistance bands

  • Pilates rings and balls

  • Fit Balls

  • Balance pads

  • Wobble boards

  • aerobic stepper

  • leg weights

GOAL - ORIENTED

We always like to ask people “Why”. Why do they want to exercise or why they want to solve a problem such as pain or reduced function. It could be to help compliment a running program, improve sleep caused by back pain, or allow someone to play with their grandchildren. Whatever your “Why” is, it is important to be doing the things to help you achieve that “Why” rather than aimless and often ineffective exercise.

“What are you goals and why?” are the first and most important questions we ask at SmartMoves and we continually put together our programs based on that information, whatever it may be.

PAINFREE MOVEMENT MAKES YOU HAPPIER

There is a big link between exercise and mental health. Someone may start with, for example, a niggling knee pain that might develop into something that stops them running. This can have fairly drastic affects on someone’s physical but also mental health, particularly if they are unable to find an alternative. A lot of the time, when correctly managed, a person can safely return to running with the right guidance. Otherwise, there is always an alternative.

Our classes can be fast paced and get the heart rate up leading to a release of those feel good chemicals! It can also act as a gateway to return to exercise like running, weight training, or competitive or social sport.
