Sports Injuries

Accurate diagnoses. Correct early management. Restore full strength and movement. Return to sport. Maintain.

Australians love their sport and an active lifestyle. While the physical and psychological benefits are huge, injuries are an inevitable part of sport and fitness.

Sports injuries occur when load on tissue exceeds its capacity to handle that load. This can occur from a trauma eg contact from opponent, landing awkwardly or lifting a weight. It can also occur as a result of repetitive strain and changes in workload.

Most soft tissue injuries should heal and recover well but require optimal management throughout. Ankle sprains, tendon problems, hamstring and calf tears are often recurrent if poorly managed initially. Similarly, if certain conditions eg fractures are missed it can lead to ongoing pain and dysfunction.

Your physiotherapist is useful in all stages of an injury. They may refer you for images or further assessment if required but most of the time set a treatment plan to help you on the road to a quick but thorough recovery.
